Sailing

Formerly officially known as "yachting", sailing is an Olympic sport that has been a great success for Team GB.

The 2012 sailing events will be held at Portland in Dorset. The venue is about 150 miles from the main Olympics Centre in Stratford East London and takes approximately 3½ hours by road.

The RYA have built a brand new bespoke multipurpose sailing centre at Portland in the run up to the games. Completed at the end of 2008 at a cost of £15million, the new centre will enable GB sailors plenty of opportunity to use the facilities in the run up to the the games.

There are 11 gold medals available in all sailing competitions.
