Olympic transport

Transport for the 2012 London Olympics is at the top of the list of potential difficulties that the games organizers will face. London, with it's congestion charging zone and poor public transport infrastructure will need considerable improvements to its road and rail network.

The nearest airport to the main Olympic Stadium and Olympic Park is London City Airport. Although the closest airport, London City (LCY) has limited capacity. The major airports are Heathrow (LHR) (west of london) and Gatwick (LGW) (south of london). and Stansted (north of London). Express rail services take visitors to central London from all airports and it is planned to improve rail transport to enable visitors to get quickly to the Olympic Park area.

It is planned that free London transport will be included in Olympic events tickets to minimize the number of extra cars on the road.
